Introduction (00:00:00-00:00:30)

Music Interlude (00:00:31-00:01:06)

Welcome to the Linux Action Show(00:01:06-00:20:18)

Bryan welcomes everyone to the first episode of the Linux Action Show, whilst Chris starts the 'Runs Linux' section revealing TiVO runs Linux. They chat about the upcoming release of Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 (the release numbering confuses them both), the features including Evolution, Package Management upgrades and the Human (Brown) theme.

They then expand onto the pros and cons of the Ubuntu Live CD installer, with Chris expressing his preference for text installers, moving onto networking shares and how Ubuntu Dapper Drake has made using Linux alongside Windows shares alot easier. Complaints about how OpenOffice.org doesn't seem as well themed in Ubuntu with it not being a native Gnome application compared to AbiWord.

Chris and Bryan express their love for eye candy, proclaiming it beats whatever OS X and Vista offer easily.

Music Interlude (00:20:18-00:20:28)

One Laptop Per Child (00:20:28-00:29:32)

Chris and Bryan talk about the OLPC project, both impressed by the idea however the both assumed at the start that it wouldn't actually take off. They both dismiss the criticisms about people saying that by the time the price of the laptop is $50 is won't be useful is a stupid arguement.

They talk about the Mesh Networking feature of the laptop, which allows any laptops near by any other laptop that is in a chain where only one laptop needs a connection to the internet. They talk about the domain laptop.org, surpised that the domain was not already taken and suggests that either laptop.com or laptop.org is the real domain, the other probably being a porn site.

Bryan mentions he and his fiance are planning to buy three of these laptop to help support children in impoverished areas, moving onto the offering from Windows and Apple to offer their OS's stripped down for the OLPC. The fact that the OLPC doubles up as an E-Book reader astounds them both as only high end laptops offer that functionality.

Music Interlude (00:29:30-00:29:41)

Another Distro (00:29:41-00:48:55)

Bryan and Chris talk about SLED, Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop. The tagline for the distro was "all the features of Vista in 2006" apparently. Chris explains he's been beta testing SLED before Dapper was even in the works, or as he said "for freakin' ever". They talk about the new SLAB menu, which includes integrated beagle search in the menu and how the menu is very wide and how whether or not new users will find the search function to find programs will be intuitive - talking about how Bryans' mum couldn't grasp the right click concept.

SLED is mentioned to be 3 years support on the desktop and 5 years on the server, Chris is unsure as if he would suggest SLED if he was in a company where he could make such decision.

Chris and Bryan move onto other boxed distrobutions talking about WalMart sales of Linspire computers, mentioning that it's not profitable but is gaining ground. They also begin to talk about the 'phone home' feature of CNR from Linspire allowing them to figure out how many users they have.

Music Interlude (00:48:55-00:48:58)

Wrapping Up (00:48:58-00:50:24)

Bryan and Chris wrap up the episode, they aren't sure whether or not the show will be weekly and suggest that people subscribe to the RSS feed, and if there isn't a new episode to re-listen to an old episode. They also promote their email addresses to allow people to get in contact.
